Acesulfame Potassium
Acesulfame Potassium is a high-intensity, non-nutritive sweetener belonging to the oxathiazinone dioxide family. The molecule is the potassium salt of 6-methyl-1,2,3-oxathiazine-4(3H)-one 2,2-dioxide and delivers a sweetness intensity roughly 200 times that of sucrose.
The compound has the formula C₄H₄KNO₄S and a molar mass of 201.24 g/mol. It is a white, odourless crystalline powder that is freely soluble in water and only slightly soluble in ethanol.
The sweetness profile is fast-onset with a mild, slightly bitter tail at higher concentrations. Formulators routinely blend it with aspartame, sucralose, or sugar alcohols to mask the residual aftertaste and to use the sweetness synergy between them, which is well established.
We source bulk Acesulfame Potassium from top China manufacturers for our partners, working with several of them. The manufacturers are in Jiangsu, Anhui and Zhejiang. For this ingredient the minimum order is 1,000 kg and a 20-foot container takes 18 MT, and a smaller requirement can ship in a combined container with other ingredients.
Please send the grade you need, the volume and your destination port, and we will come back with a solution and a price.

Common Markets Grades
There are two grades of Acesulfame Potassium: food and pharmaceutical. Both assay at 99 percent minimum on the dried basis and both are made for direct human consumption, the pharmaceutical grade to the tighter specification.
Different particle sizes suit different end uses. A standard crystalline grade with mean particle size around 100 to 200 micrometers is used for tabletop sachets, granular sweetener blends, and direct addition to syrups.
A fine milled grade with mean particle size below 50 micrometers is preferred for tablet manufacture, dry beverage mixes, and pharmaceutical chewables, where rapid dissolution and uniform low-dose distribution are essential.
The food-grade material complies with the FCC (Food Chemicals Codex) monograph. The pharmaceutical grade complies with the Ph. Eur., USP-NF, and BP monographs, with tighter limits on residual organic solvents and related substances such as acetoacetamide.

How We Help Source Acesulfame Potassium
Direct Factory Sourcing
We run the whole process: selecting the manufacturer from the top Chinese food ingredient producers, negotiating the price, verifying quality, and coordinating the logistics. You deal with us instead of with several factories at once.
Original Packaging and Documents from the Manufacturer
The manufacturer sends your Acesulfame Potassium out of its own factory in the original packing, through to your destination port. The COA, COO, MSDS, TDS and any certifications reach you from the manufacturer as well.
Free Samples and Lead Time
We send 100 to 500 g free for your own laboratory to test and you cover only the courier, usually within 2 to 3 working days. ETD is usually within 7 to 15 days once the order is confirmed, and we check that date against the factory's own manufacturing schedule before we give it to you.
Combined Shipment
We can load Acesulfame Potassium together with other ingredients such as Stevia, Erythritol and Maltitol into one 20' FCL. If your quantity is small, we can also ship LCL.
Regulatory Status
Acesulfame potassium is approved as a food additive in more than 90 countries.
In the European Union it carries the E number E950 under Regulation (EC) No 1333/2008. EFSA completed a re-evaluation framework that confirmed acceptable use across the food categories listed in Annex II.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration first approved acesulfame potassium in 1988 for tabletop and dry food use and extended approval to a general-purpose sweetener in 2003 (21 CFR 172.800). The Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA) has evaluated the substance and concluded it is acceptable for the stated uses.
Pharmacopoeial monographs appear in the European Pharmacopoeia (Ph. Eur.) and the United States Pharmacopeia-National Formulary (USP-NF). Halal and Kosher certifications are commonly available because the manufacturing process uses no animal-derived inputs.
Manufacturing Process
Acesulfame potassium synthesis follows a route originally developed by Hoechst AG in the late 1960s and refined through several generations of process chemistry.
The starting material is acetoacetic acid tert-butyl ester or a closely related beta-keto ester, which is reacted with fluorosulfonyl isocyanate or sulfamic acid derivatives to build the heterocyclic oxathiazinone ring. The ring closes through intramolecular cyclization under controlled temperature.
The free acid intermediate is neutralised with potassium hydroxide to form the potassium salt. The crude salt is then recrystallised from water or aqueous ethanol, decolorised with activated carbon, and dried to constant weight.
The dried material is milled to the target particle size, screened, and blended for uniformity. Modern processes minimise the formation of acetoacetamide and related ring-opened impurities, which are tightly limited in the food and pharmaceutical specifications.
