Blueberry Extract

Blueberry Extract is a concentrated powder prepared from the cultivated highbush blueberry, Vaccinium corymbosum L., and in some commercial lots from rabbiteye and lowbush species. The fruit is large, sweet, and farmed at scale across North America, Chile, Peru, and parts of southern Europe.

The extract carries a mixed anthocyanin profile alongside the stilbene pterostilbene, chlorogenic acid, and quercetin glycosides. Standardised grades quote anthocyanins from 5 to 25 percent and, in higher-spec material, pterostilbene at quantified parts-per-million levels.

We source bulk Blueberry Extract from top China manufacturers for our partners. The manufacturers are in Shaanxi and Tianjin. A smaller requirement can ship in a combined container with other ingredients.

Please send the grade you need, the volume and your destination port, and we will come back with a solution and a price.

Common Markets Grades

Blueberry Extract spans a wide specification range to match different application needs.

4:1 and 10:1 native concentrates carry the full fruit polyphenol matrix with no added standardisation. These are the standard grades for general supplement and food fortification.

Standardised grades step up to 5, 10, 15, and 25 percent anthocyanins by UV-Vis pH-differential assay. The higher grades use resin enrichment similar to bilberry processing.

Pterostilbene-enriched grades quantify the methylated stilbene at 0.5 to 5 mg per gram, and a small set of specialty extracts isolate pterostilbene at 95 percent or higher for pharmaceutical-style supplement formulation.

Freeze-dried whole-fruit powders, juice powders, and organic-certified versions round out the commercial range. Tableting and beverage-soluble carriers are blended on request.

  • Cognitive and memory blends combined with bacopa, ginkgo, or omega-3 oils
  • Cardiovascular support formulas alongside grape seed and resveratrol
  • Functional beverages, juice blends, smoothie powders, and ready-to-drink wellness shots
  • Sports nutrition recovery products and pre-workout antioxidant blends
  • Bakery and cereal fortification: muffins, granola, breakfast bars, and cereal toppings
  • Confectionery: gummies, jellies, hard candies, and chocolate inclusions
  • Dairy and frozen desserts including yogurt swirls, ice cream ribbons, and kefir

How We Help Source Blueberry Extract

  • Direct Factory Sourcing

We run the whole process: selecting the manufacturer from the top Chinese food ingredient producers, negotiating the price, verifying quality, and coordinating the logistics. You deal with us instead of with several factories at once.

  • Original Packaging and Documents from the Manufacturer

The manufacturer sends your Blueberry Extract out of its own factory in the original packing, through to your destination port. The COA, COO, MSDS, TDS and any certifications reach you from the manufacturer as well.

  • Free Samples and Lead Time

We send 100 to 500 g free for your own laboratory to test and you cover only the courier, usually within 2 to 3 working days. ETD is usually within 7 to 15 days once the order is confirmed, and we check that date against the factory's own manufacturing schedule before we give it to you.

  • Combined Shipment

We can load Blueberry Extract together with other ingredients such as Astaxanthin, Dehydrated Garlic and Lutein into one 20' FCL. If your quantity is small, we can also ship LCL.

Regulatory Status

Blueberry Extract has a strong regulatory position in major markets.

The fruit has a long history of food use and is treated as a conventional food ingredient in the European Union, the United States, Canada, and Japan. The extract is marketed as a dietary supplement under DSHEA in the US and as a food supplement in the EU.

Pterostilbene-enriched material has been the subject of a U.S. FDA New Dietary Ingredient notification and is in commerce as a supplement ingredient. Natural anthocyanin pigments from blueberry are permitted as food colours in many jurisdictions under E163 in the European Union.

Cosmetic use is covered by the INCI name Vaccinium Corymbosum Fruit Extract. Organic, Kosher, and Halal certifications are widely available.

Manufacturing Process

Cultivated blueberries are harvested at full ripeness, sorted, and immediately frozen or juiced. Frozen fruit is the most common starting material for extract manufacturing because it preserves anthocyanins through transport and storage.

The thawed fruit is pressed, and the pomace and juice can be processed separately. Pomace contains the bulk of the pigmented skin polyphenols, while juice carries the soluble phenolic acids and stilbenes.

Solvent extraction uses food-grade ethanol or aqueous-alcohol mixtures. Macroporous resin chromatography concentrates the anthocyanin fraction, and the eluate is vacuum-evaporated, blended with a carrier, and spray-dried under controlled conditions.

Pterostilbene-enriched grades require an additional liquid-liquid partition or preparative chromatography step to lift the stilbene level above the natural fruit ratio. Final products are assayed by HPLC for anthocyanins, pterostilbene, and chlorogenic acid, with microbiology and heavy-metal testing on every lot.
