Manufacturing Process
Rose hips for SOD-grade extract are harvested from selected wild stands, typically in Chile, Bulgaria, or Romania. The choice of source is driven by retained enzymatic activity in the raw material, which falls sharply if the fruit is heat-stressed during harvest or transport.
Processing is built around cold-chain handling and low-temperature drying. Hips are gently dried, then milled into a composite shell-and-seed powder using a controlled grinding step that avoids heat buildup.
Unlike the standard extract, no aggressive solvent extraction or high-temperature spray-drying step is used, because both would inactivate the fragile SOD-like activity. The product is closer to a refined, particle-size-controlled whole-fruit powder than a true solvent extract.
Lot release combines the McCord-Fridovich SOD activity assay, HPLC galactolipid (GOPO) quantification, polyphenol content by Folin-Ciocalteu, vitamin C, and the usual heavy-metal, pesticide, and microbiology panels.
