Vitamin B2 Riboflavin
Vitamin B2 Riboflavin is the chemical name for the water-soluble vitamin riboflavin, sold as a fine yellow-orange crystalline powder for direct food fortification, supplement manufacture, and pharmaceutical formulation.
This listing covers the 98 percent and higher assay specification preferred for monograph compliance and label claim consistency. The molecule (C₁₇H₂₀N₄O₆, molar mass 376.36 g/mol) carries the flavin ring system that gives the powder its characteristic fluorescent yellow tone.
We source bulk Vitamin B2 Riboflavin from top China manufacturers for our partners. The manufacturer is in Shandong. For this ingredient the minimum order is 200 kg and a 20-foot container takes 8 MT, and a smaller requirement can ship in a combined container with other ingredients.
Please send the grade you need, the volume and your destination port, and we will come back with a solution and a price.

Common Markets Grades
Riboflavin is graded by particle size and assay.
The main fortification specification is 98 to 102 percent assay on a dried basis, matching USP, Ph. Eur., and JP monograph limits. Standard micronized grades pass through a 100 mesh screen for uniform dispersion in flour, dry beverage mixes, and tablet blends.
Coarser crystalline grades around 80 mesh are produced for capsule fill and animal premix work where dust generation must be controlled.
Coated and spray-dried grades carry a thin maltodextrin or gum acacia film to mask the bitter taste and limit photodegradation during open mixing.
Applications
- Flour and cereal fortification under national enrichment programs
- Multivitamin tablets, capsules, and softgel formulations
- Pediatric and prenatal supplement blends
- Sports nutrition powders and protein-based meal replacements
- Infant formula and clinical nutrition products as the labelled B2 source
- Effervescent tablets and powdered beverage premixes
- Yellow tinting of dairy desserts, custards, and table sauces under E101
- Pharmaceutical syrups, drops, and chewable tablets
- Animal feed premixes for poultry, swine, and ruminant rations
- Pet food and aquaculture diets where fluorescent yellow colour is a secondary cue
- Cosmetic and personal care preparations as a natural-source yellow

How We Help Source Vitamin B2 Riboflavin
Direct Factory Sourcing
We run the whole process: selecting the manufacturer from the top Chinese food ingredient producers, negotiating the price, verifying quality, and coordinating the logistics. You deal with us instead of with several factories at once.
Original Packaging and Documents from the Manufacturer
The manufacturer sends your Vitamin B2 Riboflavin out of its own factory in the original packing, through to your destination port. The COA, COO, MSDS, TDS and any certifications reach you from the manufacturer as well.
Free Samples and Lead Time
We send 100 to 500 g free for your own laboratory to test and you cover only the courier, usually within 2 to 3 working days. ETD is usually within 7 to 15 days once the order is confirmed, and we check that date against the factory's own manufacturing schedule before we give it to you.
Combined Shipment
We can load Vitamin B2 Riboflavin together with other ingredients such as Vitamin C, Vitamin D3 and Vitamin E into one 20' FCL. If your quantity is small, we can also ship LCL.
Regulatory Status
Riboflavin holds permitted-colour and nutrient status in every major market.
In the European Union it is listed as E101(i) for the parent compound, with phosphate ester variants under E101(ii). U.S. FDA approval covers colour use under 21 CFR 73.450 and nutrient use under GRAS.
JECFA has set a group ADI covering riboflavin and its phosphate salts. Pharmacopoeial monographs appear in USP, Ph. Eur., and JP.
Halal and Kosher certifications are routinely available for fermentation-source material when the fermentation medium is plant-based.
Manufacturing Process
Modern riboflavin manufacture is almost entirely by microbial fermentation.
The dominant industrial strain is Bacillus subtilis, engineered for high throughput through the GTP and ribulose 5-phosphate precursor pools. A secondary process uses the ascomycete Ashbya gossypii, which naturally overproduces riboflavin and was the basis of the first single-step biological route commercialized by BASF.
Fermentation broth is heat-treated to lyse cells, then clarified by filtration. Crude riboflavin is recovered by acidic precipitation, washed, and recrystallised from dilute mineral acid to lift the assay to monograph grade.
The older chemical synthesis from D-ribose and 3,4-xylidine, developed by Karrer and Kuhn in the 1930s, has been almost fully displaced on cost and environmental grounds.
