D-Ribose
D-Ribose is a five-carbon aldopentose sugar that forms the backbone of RNA, ATP, NADH, and the riboflavin coenzymes.
The molecular formula is C₅H₁₀O₅ with molar mass 150.13 g/mol. The crystalline powder is white, freely water-soluble, and mildly sweet.
D-Ribose is sold as a sports and cardiac nutrition supplement on the premise that supplemental ribose can accelerate the regeneration of adenine nucleotides after intense exercise or in tissues with impaired energy metabolism.
We source bulk D-Ribose from top China manufacturers for our partners. The manufacturers are in Jiangxi and Henan. For this ingredient the minimum order is 100 kg and a 20-foot container takes 10 MT, and a smaller requirement can ship in a combined container with other ingredients.
Please send the grade you need, the volume and your destination port, and we will come back with a solution and a price.

Common Markets Grades
D-Ribose trades in supplement, pharmaceutical, and biotechnology grades.
Supplement grade is the dominant commercial form, declared at 99 percent or higher purity and sold as a free-flowing white crystalline powder.
Pharmaceutical grade carries tighter limits on bacterial endotoxin and is used in injectable cardioplegic solutions and as a building block for nucleoside drug synthesis.
Biotechnology grade is produced for use in nucleotide and nucleic acid synthesis at varying particle sizes.
Fermentation-derived ribose dominates commercial supply, with chemical synthesis from arabinose used for specialized small-volume needs.
Applications
- Sports nutrition supplement for energy and recovery
- Cardiac and congestive heart failure nutrition
- Adjunct supplement for chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia
- Building block in nucleoside drug synthesis (antiretrovirals, antivirals)
- Substrate in RNA and oligonucleotide synthesis
- Ingredient in pre-workout and recovery powders
- Component of cardioprotective and ischemia-reperfusion formulations
- Carbohydrate substrate in fermentation media for biotech applications
- Sweet diluent in supplement powders
- Carrier for active compounds in flavoured supplement sticks
- Reagent in clinical chemistry and biochemistry research

How We Help Source D-Ribose
Direct Factory Sourcing
We run the whole process: selecting the manufacturer from the top Chinese food ingredient producers, negotiating the price, verifying quality, and coordinating the logistics. You deal with us instead of with several factories at once.
Original Packaging and Documents from the Manufacturer
The manufacturer sends your D-Ribose out of its own factory in the original packing, through to your destination port. The COA, COO, MSDS, TDS and any certifications reach you from the manufacturer as well.
Free Samples and Lead Time
We send 100 to 500 g free for your own laboratory to test and you cover only the courier, usually within 2 to 3 working days. ETD is usually within 7 to 15 days once the order is confirmed, and we check that date against the factory's own manufacturing schedule before we give it to you.
Combined Shipment
We can load D-Ribose together with other ingredients such as Fructooligosaccharides, Dextrose and Dextrose Monohydrate into one 20' FCL. If your quantity is small, we can also ship LCL.
Regulatory Status
D-Ribose is recognised as a dietary supplement ingredient in most major markets without an E number.
The U.S. FDA accepts D-ribose as a self-affirmed GRAS ingredient (GRN 000189) for use in foods and supplements at functional levels.
EFSA reviewed D-ribose as a novel food ingredient in 2018 and accepted its safety at typical supplement intake levels.
Pharmaceutical-grade ribose is covered by drug master files for use as a starting material in nucleoside drug synthesis.
Manufacturing Process
Industrial D-ribose is produced almost entirely by microbial fermentation.
A glucose substrate is fermented with engineered Bacillus subtilis or related transketolase-deficient strains. Blocking the transketolase step of the pentose phosphate pathway forces excretion of D-ribose into the fermentation broth.
The broth is clarified by membrane filtration, decolorised with carbon, demineralized by ion exchange, and concentrated by evaporation.
The concentrated ribose solution is crystallised under controlled cooling.
The crystals are separated by centrifugation, washed, dried, and milled to the target particle size.
