Capsule Lecithin

Capsule Lecithin is a softgel-grade phospholipid emulsifier formulated for inclusion in gelatin and plant-based capsule shells and fills. It carries the European food additive number E322 within the broader lecithin class and is most commonly produced from soybean or sunflower fluid lecithin.

The material is a low-colour, low-acid-value fluid or a deoiled powder. The specification windows are tighter than for general food lecithin to suit the demanding visual and stability requirements of softgel encapsulation.

We source bulk Capsule Lecithin from top China manufacturers for our partners. The manufacturer is in Anhui. A smaller requirement can ship in a combined container with other ingredients.

Please send the grade you need, the volume and your destination port, and we will come back with a solution and a price.

Common Markets Grades

Capsule Lecithin is graded by colour, acid value, and peroxide value.

Standard capsule grades carry a Gardner colour of 7 or lower, an acid value below 25, and a peroxide value below 5 milliequivalents per kilogram. Premium grades reach a Gardner colour of 4 or lower for visually pale softgel fills such as omega-3 and vitamin E products.

Deoiled powder grades for use inside the fill matrix carry phospholipid content above 95 percent and are produced with tight residual solvent specifications.

Sunflower-source capsule lecithin is produced for allergen-free and non-GMO supplement segments alongside the standard soy version. Selected pharmaceutical grades carry compliance with the European Pharmacopoeia monograph for lecithin.

Applications

  • Softgel capsule fills for omega-3 fish oils and algal oils
  • Vitamin A, D, E, and K oil-based softgel formulations
  • Coenzyme Q10 and other lipid-soluble supplement softgels
  • Phytosterol and plant extract softgel fills
  • Liver health and choline supplement softgels
  • Brain and cognitive function supplement formulations
  • Vegan capsule shells based on plant-derived polymers
  • Pharmaceutical softgel formulations for lipid-soluble drugs
  • Topical and suppository pharmaceutical capsules
  • Nutraceutical chewable softgels for children and seniors
  • Veterinary softgel supplements and treats
  • Cosmetic single-dose capsule serums

How We Help Source Capsule Lecithin

  • Direct Factory Sourcing

We run the whole process: selecting the manufacturer from the top Chinese food ingredient producers, negotiating the price, verifying quality, and coordinating the logistics. You deal with us instead of with several factories at once.

  • Original Packaging and Documents from the Manufacturer

The manufacturer sends your Capsule Lecithin out of its own factory in the original packing, through to your destination port. The COA, COO, MSDS, TDS and any certifications reach you from the manufacturer as well.

  • Free Samples and Lead Time

We send 100 to 500 g free for your own laboratory to test and you cover only the courier, usually within 2 to 3 working days. ETD is usually within 7 to 15 days once the order is confirmed, and we check that date against the factory's own manufacturing schedule before we give it to you.

  • Combined Shipment

We can load Capsule Lecithin together with other ingredients such as Polyglycerol Esters of Fatty Acids, Non-Dairy Creamer and Mono- and Diglycerides of Fatty Acids into one 20' FCL. If your quantity is small, we can also ship LCL.

Regulatory Status

Capsule Lecithin shares the regulatory status of standard lecithin under the European food additive number E322 in the European Union for general food and supplement use at quantum satis.

The United States Food and Drug Administration treats lecithin as Generally Recognized as Safe under 21 CFR 184.1400. JECFA reviewed lecithins as a class and concluded that a numerical intake limit was not required.

The European Pharmacopoeia and the United States Pharmacopeia carry monographs for lecithin that apply to pharmaceutical-grade capsule lecithin. The Food Chemicals Codex covers food and supplement grades.

Source allergen labelling follows the parent oilseed. Soy-derived capsule lecithin requires a soy declaration in most major markets, while sunflower-derived material does not. Kosher and Halal certifications are widely available, and vegan certification is produced for plant-source grades.

Manufacturing Process

Capsule Lecithin is produced by additional refining of standard fluid lecithin to tight colour and oxidation specifications.

The starting material is typically a bleached fluid lecithin already clarified to a Gardner colour of 10 or lower. The fluid is treated with adsorbent earths under controlled temperature and vacuum to remove residual pigments and oxidation precursors.

The clarified material is filtered through fine cellulose or polymer membranes to remove particulates and standardised for acid value and peroxide value. The finished material is packaged under nitrogen in oxygen-barrier drums to preserve the low peroxide specification through shelf life.

Selected lines apply a vacuum deodorisation step with steam injection to remove minor volatile components that can contribute off-colour and oxidation odour during long softgel storage.
