Ginger Root Extract

Ginger Root Extract is a standardised botanical extract of Zingiber officinale rhizome, typically produced with aqueous or hydroalcoholic solvents and adjusted to a defined gingerol content.

The most common commercial specification is 5 to 6 percent total gingerols by HPLC, sold as a free-flowing brown powder on a maltodextrin or gum acacia carrier. Higher-potency grades at 10 to 25 percent gingerols are produced for capsule and softgel manufacturers who want a smaller daily dose.

We source bulk Ginger Root Extract from top China manufacturers for our partners. The manufacturers are in Hunan and Shaanxi. For this ingredient the minimum order is 200 kg, and a smaller requirement can ship in a combined container with other ingredients.

Please send the grade you need, the volume and your destination port, and we will come back with a solution and a price.

Common Markets Grades

Ginger root extract is graded by gingerol assay, extraction solvent, and carrier system.

The 5 percent gingerol grade is the nutraceutical reference standard. It is used in mainstream supplement blends, functional teas, and digestive-health formulas. Pricing and availability are best at this concentration.

10 percent and 20 percent gingerol grades target single-ingredient capsule applications where dose per serving is the limiting design constraint. These higher grades require more aggressive solvent removal and a tighter raw-material selection.

Water-extracted grades are positioned for clean-label customers who object to ethanol or hydrocarbon solvents. Hydroalcoholic extracts (typically 30 to 60 percent ethanol in water) give a broader phytochemical profile and are preferred by traditional herbal manufacturers.

Standardisation tolerance is usually plus or minus 1 percentage point on the gingerol assay. Heavy metals, pesticide residues, and microbial limits follow USP and Ph. Eur. monograph requirements.

How We Help Source Ginger Root Extract

  • Direct Factory Sourcing

We run the whole process: selecting the manufacturer from the top Chinese food ingredient producers, negotiating the price, verifying quality, and coordinating the logistics. You deal with us instead of with several factories at once.

  • Original Packaging and Documents from the Manufacturer

The manufacturer sends your Ginger Root Extract out of its own factory in the original packing, through to your destination port. The COA, COO, MSDS, TDS and any certifications reach you from the manufacturer as well.

  • Free Samples and Lead Time

We send 100 to 500 g free for your own laboratory to test and you cover only the courier, usually within 2 to 3 working days. ETD is usually within 7 to 15 days once the order is confirmed, and we check that date against the factory's own manufacturing schedule before we give it to you.

  • Combined Shipment

We can load Ginger Root Extract together with other ingredients such as Astaxanthin, Dehydrated Garlic and Lutein into one 20' FCL. If your quantity is small, we can also ship LCL.

Regulatory Status

Ginger root extract is regulated as a botanical dietary ingredient in the United States under DSHEA. Health claims are limited to structure-function statements with appropriate disclaimers.

In the European Union it qualifies as a herbal medicinal product under the traditional-use registration scheme of directive 2004/24/EC, with the European Medicines Agency having published a community herbal monograph for Zingiberis rhizoma covering traditional indications.

Pharmacopoeial monographs for powdered ginger extract appear in the United States Pharmacopeia and the European Pharmacopoeia, both specifying a minimum total-gingerol content for pharmacopoeial grade material.

Health Canada has assigned ginger a natural health product monograph permitting specific traditional and modern indications. Australia's TGA regulates it as a listed-medicine ingredient under AUST L provisions. Kosher, Halal, and organic certifications are widely offered by reputable suppliers.

Manufacturing Process

The starting material is dried Zingiber officinale rhizome, usually selected from origins with a high native gingerol content such as Indian Cochin or premium Nigerian lots.

The rhizome is milled to a controlled particle size and loaded into a multi-stage extraction vessel. Water or hydroalcoholic solvent is circulated through the bed under controlled temperature. Extraction temperature is kept below 60 C to limit conversion of gingerols to shogaols, since the gingerol assay is the value-defining specification.

The crude extract is filtered, then concentrated under vacuum. For powder grades, the concentrated extract is sprayed onto a carrier such as maltodextrin or gum acacia in a spray dryer. Inlet air temperature and feed rate are tuned to preserve gingerol stability while producing a free-flowing powder.

Each lot is assayed by HPLC for the sum of 6-, 8-, and 10-gingerol against a reference standard. Lots that fall short of the spec are blended with higher-assay lots to hit the label claim. Heavy metals, pesticides, residual solvents, and microbiology are tested before release.
