Tremella Polysaccharide
Tremella Polysaccharide is a high-molecular-weight heteropolysaccharide obtained from the fruiting body of Tremella fuciformis, the white jelly mushroom long cultivated in southern China.
The dominant macromolecule is an acidic glucuronoxylomannan with a mannose-rich backbone and side chains of xylose, glucuronic acid, and fucose. The chain folds into an exceptionally hydrophilic structure capable of binding many times its weight in water.
The ingredient serves two distinct markets. In skincare it functions as a botanical humectant and film-former comparable in feel to hyaluronic acid. In dietary supplements it is positioned for immune support, skin hydration from within, and as a vegan polysaccharide alternative to gelatin-derived collagen claims.
We source bulk Tremella Polysaccharide from top China manufacturers for our partners. The manufacturers are in Shaanxi and Shandong. A smaller requirement can ship in a combined container with other ingredients.

Common Markets Grades
Tremella Polysaccharide is produced along two main grade axes: purity and molecular weight.
Cosmetic grade is typically 50 to 70 percent polysaccharide on a dry basis, with the remainder consisting of soluble protein, residual mannitol, and ash. It is a fine off-white powder that hydrates into a clear, slippery solution at 0.1 to 1 percent in water.
Supplement grade is standardised to 80 percent or 90 percent polysaccharide by the phenol-sulphuric acid method, packed in food-contact bags for capsule and tablet formulation.
High-purity grade reaches 95 percent polysaccharide and is reserved for clinical material, premium serums, and reference work.
Molecular weight is controlled during extraction. Native high-molecular-weight material above one million daltons gives maximum viscosity and skin-feel. Enzymatically or thermally hydrolysed low-molecular-weight grades below 100,000 daltons are used where penetration, low viscosity, or oral bioavailability matter more than texture.
Applications
- Hydrating facial serums, essences, and ampoules where it replaces or partners with hyaluronic acid
- Sheet mask essences and rinse-off jelly masks for immediate moisturization
- Day creams, night creams, and moisturizing lotions for long-lasting humectant action
- Eye creams and lip treatments where film-forming smoothness is valued
- Sunscreen lotions and BB creams as a sensory modifier and anti-tackiness agent
- Hair conditioners, leave-in sprays, and curl-defining gels for slip and shine
- Body washes and cleansers as a feel-improving polymer
- Dietary supplement capsules and tablets for inner-beauty and immune positioning
- Functional beverages and beauty drinks, often paired with collagen peptides or ceramides
- Powdered drink mixes for hydration and gut-feel claims
- Vegan jellies, puddings, and gummies where it contributes mouthfeel without animal gelatin
- Clinical and infant-nutrition prototypes exploring soluble fibre and prebiotic effects

How We Help Source Tremella Polysaccharide
Direct Factory Sourcing
We run the whole process: selecting the manufacturer from the top Chinese food ingredient producers, negotiating the price, verifying quality, and coordinating the logistics. You deal with us instead of with several factories at once.
Original Packaging and Documents from the Manufacturer
The manufacturer sends your Tremella Polysaccharide out of its own factory in the original packing, through to your destination port. The COA, COO, MSDS, TDS and any certifications reach you from the manufacturer as well.
Free Samples and Lead Time
We send 100 to 500 g free for your own laboratory to test and you cover only the courier, usually within 2 to 3 working days. ETD is usually within 7 to 15 days once the order is confirmed, and we check that date against the factory's own manufacturing schedule before we give it to you.
Combined Shipment
We can load Tremella Polysaccharide together with other ingredients such as Astaxanthin, Dehydrated Garlic and Lutein into one 20' FCL. If your quantity is small, we can also ship LCL.
Regulatory Status
Tremella Polysaccharide is regulated as a food ingredient and a cosmetic ingredient. It carries no E number and is not classed as a food additive.
Tremella fuciformis has a long history of dietary use in China and is included in the national catalogue of substances that are both food and traditional medicine. It is treated as a conventional food in most Asian markets.
In the European Union the whole mushroom is marketed under the food-supplement framework. Isolated polysaccharide preparations may fall under the Novel Food Regulation (EU) 2015/2283 depending on the extraction process and the historical consumption pattern of the specific preparation.
In the United States, several preparations of Tremella mushroom and its extracts are accepted in dietary supplements under DSHEA. Topical use in cosmetics is widely accepted, and the INCI name Tremella fuciformis (mushroom) extract or sporocarp extract is recognised.
Cosmetic safety has been reviewed in industry assessments without restriction at typical use levels. Halal, Kosher, and vegan certifications are routinely available.
Manufacturing Process
Production begins with dried Tremella fruiting bodies cultivated on woody substrates in Fujian and Sichuan provinces. The mushroom is graded, washed, and rehydrated before extraction.
Hot-water extraction at 90 to 100 degrees Celsius for several hours is the standard route. The viscous extract is filtered hot through plate-and-frame or rotary vacuum filters to remove insoluble cell-wall debris.
Protein and small molecules are removed by Sevag treatment, by isoelectric precipitation, or by membrane ultrafiltration. Ultrafiltration is now preferred at industrial scale because it also fractionates by molecular weight and avoids organic-solvent residues.
The clarified polysaccharide solution is precipitated with 70 to 80 percent ethanol. The fibrous precipitate is collected, washed with fresh ethanol, and either spray-dried or vacuum-dried at low temperature.
For low-molecular-weight grades, the purified polysaccharide is partially hydrolysed with controlled acid, hydrogen peroxide, or specific glycoside hydrolases. The hydrolysate is neutralised, ultrafiltered again to remove salts and monomers, and dried.
Finished material is characterised by total polysaccharide content, monosaccharide composition by HPLC, weight-average molecular weight by gel permeation chromatography, and rheology of a standard aqueous solution.
