Chondroitin Sulphate Sodium

Chondroitin Sulphate Sodium is the sodium-salt form of chondroitin sulphate, the standard format in which the polymer is produced for supplement, pharmaceutical, ophthalmic, and veterinary use.

Neutralising the strongly acidic sulphate and carboxylate groups with sodium hydroxide gives a freely water-soluble, neutral-pH powder. The CAS number for the sodium-salt form is 9082-07-9.

We source bulk Chondroitin Sulphate Sodium from top China manufacturers for our partners, working with several of them. The manufacturers are mostly in Zhejiang, Hunan and Shandong. A smaller requirement can ship in a combined container with other ingredients.

Please send the grade you need, the volume and your destination port, and we will come back with a solution and a price.

Common Markets Grades

The pharmacopoeial reference grade is Chondroitin Sulphate Sodium at 95 percent or 99 percent assay by CPC (cetylpyridinium chloride) titration, with documented species of origin and TSE/BSE risk evaluation.

Supplement-grade material at 90 percent is the volume product for joint-health capsules and chewable tablets, typically blended with glucosamine sulphate or hydrochloride.

Veterinary-injectable grade is graded at 99 percent purity with reduced endotoxin and bioburden specifications, suitable for sterile-filtered products used in equine joint therapy.

Ophthalmic-grade material meets additional clarity, endotoxin, and viscosity criteria for use in viscoelastic surgical solutions and dry-eye drops.

Molecular-weight ranges (10 to 50 kDa typical) and sulfation patterns (4-sulphate versus 6-sulphate) are documented to certificate level, with bovine, porcine, avian, and shark sources distinguished in the COA.

Applications

  • Joint-health supplements as the standard chondroitin source, alone or with glucosamine
  • Triple-action capsules with glucosamine and MSM at 1200 mg per daily dose
  • Prescription osteoarthritis medication in the EU SYSADOA category
  • Sterile injectable products for equine osteoarthritis and tendon support
  • Intraocular viscoelastic solutions used during cataract and corneal procedures
  • Dry-eye and contact-lens lubricating drops at 0.5 percent
  • Topical creams, gels, and patches for localized musculoskeletal use
  • Wound-care dressings and dermal-substitute biomaterials
  • Anti-aging cosmetic serums positioned as connective-tissue support
  • Sports-recovery powders and ready-to-drink beverages
  • Pet supplements for canine, feline, and equine joint maintenance

How We Help Source Chondroitin Sulphate Sodium

  • Direct Factory Sourcing

We run the whole process: selecting the manufacturer from the top Chinese food ingredient producers, negotiating the price, verifying quality, and coordinating the logistics. You deal with us instead of with several factories at once.

  • Original Packaging and Documents from the Manufacturer

The manufacturer sends your Chondroitin Sulphate Sodium out of its own factory in the original packing, through to your destination port. The COA, COO, MSDS, TDS and any certifications reach you from the manufacturer as well.

  • Free Samples and Lead Time

We send 100 to 500 g free for your own laboratory to test and you cover only the courier, usually within 2 to 3 working days. ETD is usually within 7 to 15 days once the order is confirmed, and we check that date against the factory's own manufacturing schedule before we give it to you.

  • Combined Shipment

We can load Chondroitin Sulphate Sodium together with other ingredients such as Arachidonic Acid, Coenzyme Q10 and L-Ergothioneine into one 20' FCL. If your quantity is small, we can also ship LCL.

Regulatory Status

Chondroitin Sulphate Sodium is the form named in most pharmacopoeial monographs and regulatory dossiers covering the molecule.

The United States Pharmacopeia (USP), the European Pharmacopoeia (Ph. Eur.), and the Japanese Pharmacopoeia (JP) each carry a monograph for Chondroitin Sulphate Sodium. The monographs specify identification, assay, molecular-weight distribution, sulphate content, protein content, residual solvents, and species-of-origin testing.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration accepts the sodium salt as a dietary ingredient under DSHEA. The European Medicines Agency authorises it as a prescription medicine for osteoarthritis in several member states.

For bovine-source material, TSE/BSE risk evaluation under EMA/410/01 and FDA guidance applies. Suppliers maintain country-of-origin documentation for the source herd and demonstrate compliance with the specified-risk-material rules.

Halal certification depends on the source animal and slaughter method. Marine-source material from sustainable fisheries supports vegetarian-leaning positioning (though it is not vegan).

Manufacturing Process

Chondroitin Sulphate Sodium is the final product of the standard cartilage-extraction process, in which the free acid form is neutralised with sodium hydroxide before spray-drying.

The starting cartilage (bovine trachea, porcine nasal, chicken sternum, or shark) is washed, defatted, and digested with proteolytic enzymes such as papain or alcalase. The released glycosaminoglycan fraction is precipitated, redissolved, and purified by ion exchange to separate chondroitin sulphate from other GAGs.

The purified chondroitin sulphate solution is neutralised with sodium hydroxide to a target pH (typically 6.5 to 7.5). The sodium-salt solution is decolorised over activated carbon, polish-filtered, and concentrated.

Spray-drying is the standard final step, producing a hygroscopic off-white powder of typical bulk density 0.4 to 0.6 g/mL. The material is milled to specification and packed in HDPE-lined fibre drums with desiccant.

Producers include Bioiberica (Spain), TSI Group, Sioux Pharm, and a large cluster of Chinese suppliers in Henan, Hebei, and Jiangsu.
