Licorice Extract Spray is a spray-dried powder form of licorice root extract, deposited on a maltodextrin carrier during atomisation.
The carrier produces a free-flowing, low-hygroscopic, pale brown to tan powder that disperses readily in cold water and resists caking under normal warehouse conditions.
The active fraction retains the typical sweet, mildly anise-tinged taste of Glycyrrhiza glabra root, with glycyrrhizin as the leading marker and a balanced background of liquiritin-family flavonoids.

Spray-dried licorice extract is produced along two axes: glycyrrhizin assay and carrier ratio.
Standard supplement grades carry 5, 10, or 20 percent glycyrrhizin on a maltodextrin DE 10 to 12 base, balanced to a total moisture below 5 percent.
A 25 percent glycyrrhizin grade is produced for premium capsule fillers and stick packs where dose-per-volume is critical.
A deglycyrrhizinated spray grade (DGL spray) carries glycyrrhizin below 3 percent with the flavonoid fraction intact, on a maltodextrin or gum acacia carrier.
A beverage-functional grade uses gum acacia as carrier in place of maltodextrin for improved colloidal stability in clear and lightly turbid drinks.

Regulatory Status
Licorice extract carried on a food-grade maltodextrin or gum acacia matrix is treated as a food ingredient or as a herbal preparation across the main regulated markets.
In the European Union the underlying extract is permitted as a food and a flavouring under Regulation 1334/2008. Maltodextrin and gum acacia are unrestricted food ingredients.
In the United States the spray-dried preparation falls under the GRAS status of licorice extract (21 CFR 184.1408) together with the GRAS carriers.
The European Pharmacopoeia, United States Pharmacopeia, and Chinese Pharmacopoeia carry monographs on licorice root and on standardised licorice extracts; the spray-dried form is qualified against the same identity and assay parameters.
Halal, Kosher, and non-GMO certificates are routinely available given the all-vegetable raw materials.
Manufacturing Process
Production starts from a clarified aqueous extract of Glycyrrhiza glabra root prepared by hot-water diffusion and vacuum concentration.
The concentrate is blended with a maltodextrin solution at a ratio set to deliver the target glycyrrhizin assay in the finished powder. Typical carrier loading runs between 40 and 70 percent of total solids.
The blended feed is homogenised, then atomised through a rotary or pressure nozzle into a co-current spray dryer with inlet air around 170 to 190 degrees Celsius and outlet around 80 to 95 degrees.
The fine powder is collected through a cyclone and a bag filter, conditioned to a target residual moisture, and screened.
For the DGL spray grade, glycyrrhizin is removed from the feed by selective adsorption on macroporous resin before the carrier is added and the slurry is dried.
The beverage grade replaces maltodextrin with gum acacia or a maltodextrin-acacia blend to improve dispersion in clear drinks.
