Monopotassium Glycyrrhizinate

Monopotassium Glycyrrhizinate is the singly-neutralised potassium salt of glycyrrhizic acid, assigned CAS number 68039-19-0.

It carries one potassium counter-ion balancing one of the three carboxyl groups of the glycyrrhizinate anion, which makes it less water-soluble than the tripotassium salt but well suited to lipid-rich or low-moisture systems where slow dissolution is wanted.

We source bulk Monopotassium Glycyrrhizinate from top China manufacturers for our partners, working with several of them. The manufacturers are mostly in Gansu, Shaanxi and Henan. A smaller requirement can ship in a combined container with other ingredients.

Please send the grade you need, the volume and your destination port, and we will come back with a solution and a price.

Common Markets Grades

Monopotassium Glycyrrhizinate is an off-white to pale yellow powder, sold at 90 percent, 95 percent and 98 percent assay by HPLC.

The standard food and oral-care grade carries 95 percent minimum purity with sulfated ash and heavy metals at Codex limits.

A higher-purity grade meeting cosmetic ingredient monographs is produced for skin-care emulsions, masks, and toners where the salt is valued for its skin-soothing and anti-inflammatory positioning.

Particle-size cuts include a fine powder for dry blends and a granulated form for direct compression in lozenges and tablets.

Applications

  • Skin-care creams, serums, and masks positioned for sensitive or irritated skin
  • Sunscreens and after-sun lotions in combination with allantoin or panthenol
  • Toothpaste, mouthwash, and breath strips
  • Throat lozenges and herbal pastilles
  • Hard candy and licorice confectionery
  • Pharmaceutical syrups and pediatric liquids as a flavour masker
  • Functional supplements positioned for adrenal and liver support
  • Topical anti-inflammatory ointments
  • Hair conditioners and scalp tonics
  • Tobacco casing and snuff sweetening
  • Herbal teas and decoctions

China Manufacturers of Monopotassium Glycyrrhizinate

How We Help Source Monopotassium Glycyrrhizinate

  • Direct Factory Sourcing

We run the whole process: selecting the manufacturer from the top Chinese food ingredient producers, negotiating the price, verifying quality, and coordinating the logistics. You deal with us instead of with several factories at once.

  • Original Packaging and Documents from the Manufacturer

The manufacturer sends your Monopotassium Glycyrrhizinate out of its own factory in the original packing, through to your destination port. The COA, COO, MSDS, TDS and any certifications reach you from the manufacturer as well.

  • Free Samples and Lead Time

We send 100 to 500 g free for your own laboratory to test and you cover only the courier, usually within 2 to 3 working days. ETD is usually within 7 to 15 days once the order is confirmed, and we check that date against the factory's own manufacturing schedule before we give it to you.

  • Combined Shipment

We can load Monopotassium Glycyrrhizinate together with other ingredients such as Stevia, Erythritol and Maltitol into one 20' FCL. If your quantity is small, we can also ship LCL.

Regulatory Status

Monopotassium Glycyrrhizinate is permitted as a flavour and cosmetic ingredient in most regulated markets.

In the European Union it falls under the same intake guidance as other glycyrrhizin salts, and the cosmetic uses are catalogued in CosIng. EFSA opinions on glycyrrhizin from 2024 reaffirm guidance to keep dietary glycyrrhizin intake below approximately 100 mg per day to avoid pseudoaldosteronism.

The United States Food and Drug Administration recognises licorice and its derivatives as GRAS under 21 CFR 184.1408 for food use, with the same use-level limits as the parent acid.

The International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients (INCI) lists the substance as Monopotassium Glycyrrhizinate. Kosher and Halal certifications are routinely available.

Manufacturing Process

Monopotassium Glycyrrhizinate is made by first isolating free glycyrrhizic acid from hot-water licorice extract through sulphuric acid precipitation, washing, and recrystallisation.

The purified acid is then redissolved in water with a precisely controlled molar amount of potassium hydroxide or potassium carbonate, sufficient to neutralise only one of the three carboxylate groups.

Decolorisation with activated carbon and polish filtration give a clear solution that is concentrated under vacuum. The product is recovered by spray drying or crystallisation from aqueous ethanol.

Each lot is checked by HPLC for assay, by atomic absorption for potassium and sodium content, and by pharmacopoeial methods for residual solvents, heavy metals, and microbiological load.
