Manufacturing Process
Production begins with pure retinyl palmitate concentrate, which is warmed, blended with BHT, and emulsified into a hot aqueous phase of sucrose, modified starch, and gelatin.
The emulsion is sprayed through a single-fluid or rotating-disc atomiser into a starch bed or a chilled spray tower, where the droplets solidify into discrete beadlets. The beadlets are dried under controlled humidity, screened to size, and surface-treated with starch or talc to prevent agglomeration.
The sucrose-and-BHT system has been the standard beadlet platform since the 1970s. It delivers strong protection at low matrix cost and is favoured for cost-sensitive fortification programs in flour, sugar, and powdered drink applications.
